If you are already consistently working out in an effort to lose fat weight than it’s time to turn up the heat – keeping your intensity high and eating well as we hit the holiday eating season. If you are not – don’t wait another single second. Don’t wait until your New Year’s Resolution to give you a reason to start.
Yes the holiday eating frenzy starts now – not at Thankgiving as most people believe. In the U.S. we are all trying to find the best deals on Halloween candy. Again, it all starts Read the rest of this entry »
Eventually this question is asked of me from just about everyone I meet. When people find out that my career is that I help people lose weight by figuring out how exercise fits into their lives…”yeah, I need to get back in the gym” is the usual response. Andrea and I had a some friends over for dinner Saturday night and we covered just about every topic including the one’s “your not supposed to discuss”.
This morning (ok it’s still morning) my first client was telling me that Madonna’s trainer is now working with Gweneth Paltrow. Gweneth was apparently talking about how she works out for an hour and 45 minutes – 6 days per week.
Do you have the resources or TIME for that?
Does it take that much time and effort to lose fat?
In the United States Governor Sarah Palin is the Vice Presidential nominee for the Republican Party. She has become a house hold name in a matter of days.
My curiosity has gone beyond her political views and accomplishments as I have also learned of her dedication to staying in shape. It has been reported that Sarah Palin has completed a marathon in under 4 hours! Quite impressive.
Even more impressive is discovering exactly when she had time to train for a marathon. With a husband, kids, a home to manage, and the many responsibilities she has endured as a political figure Sarah Palin often ran at midnight. Granted in Alaska it is still light out at midnight – the point is she had a fitness related goal and attained it without letting obstacles get in the way.
So often the smallest speed bump gets us “off track” resulting in failed fitness goals.
A bad day at work.
Not “feeling like” working out
The kid’s activity schedule
Late night snacking
Lack of will power
The unexpected
When you set your goals did you think about the possible factors that could derail your efforts resulting in yet one more failed attempt?
To set yourself up for success ask yourself these very important questions:
1. What obstacles could get in your way or even prevent you from reaching your goals? Write them down.
2. What strategies can you put in place to prevent these obstacles from doing so? Write them down.
Take charge of what is important to you and don’t let anything get in the way. If you want to become the Governor where you live, raise a family, start a business or just be in the best shape of your life…do it and let no obstacle steer you off course.
When is it too early to introduce fitness to your kids?
How about 3.5 years old?
This video is of my two boys (Trevor 7.5 years, and Andrew 3.5 years) absolutely kicking my a** with one of my own 10 minute whole body workouts. One of the greatest attributes of my workouts are they are flexible enough to work for ANY ability level. Relative intensity means it is relative to you.
The workout:
100 meter run
10 push ups
10 burpees
Repeat as many times as possible in 10 minutes.
The video:
I nearly passed out after this workout and my kids were outside playing again in 15 minutes!
Their push ups turned into prone bridges – so what.
How much money have you spent on gym equipment for your house? How much have you or someone you know spent on gym memberships month after month – paying for all of their expensive equipment.
What do you really need to get in great shape at home? Less than you think.
This workout is guaranteed to give you the burn you are looking for in your butt, legs and hips. The mini band in this video costs $2.75 and you can get one from Perform Better.
The combination of specific exercise with a certain sequence and a little piece of rubber mini band make for a killer lower body workout.
We start out with hip abduction to make sure the right muscles are kicking in. This one you will feel in the leg you are standing on as much if not more than the one moving.
Next you hit the floor for hip extensions to reinforce glute involvement while adding hamstrings and a bit of lower back.
Last but not least you perform squats with the mini band still around your knees to continue the burn on your butt, hamstrings and now your thighs!
On Wednesday my boot camp amazed me by completing a modified crossfit workout called the “filthy fifty” in 13:04. How does the saying go? Continually amazed but never surprised!?
Here was our version:
50 – 25 lbs. Kettlebell Dead Lifts
50 Squat Thrusts
50 Push ups
50 Medicine ball sit ups
50 Walking Lunges
50 Kettlebell Bentover rows (25 reps each side)
50 Dips
50 Jumping Jacks
That’s 400 reps in 13 minutes!
Last night I had a little over 4.5 hours sleep. Up at 4:30 am to hit the road and train my first client. Yesterday was just one of those days… end of the month, kids practice, billing, bills, taxes, work on my business, post new content on my website – you know…LIFE.
How many times does life get in the way of you reaching your fitness goals?
Today the last thing I wanted to do was workout. I had a half hour between two late morning clients so what did I do? Blow it off? NOPE.
The Filthy Fifty.
The same workout my bootcamp did ( although with a bit heavier weight) and they beat me hands down by 1:21! So my workout took 14 minutes and 25 seconds and now I feel great! I also feel good because I didn’t miss a workout!
